Areej Akhtar
Areej Akhtar participated in the Revolutionary Papers Classroom and co-authored a teaching tool on Savera (Forthcoming, 2024). Savera was a 1940s literary periodical published in Lahore by associates of the anticolonial Progressive Writers’ Movement. She is a Senior at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), majoring in English Literature and minoring in Religion. Her undergraduate thesis centers on the genre of ‘harem literature,’ focusing particularly on the construction of the Muslim women’s sensuality through the spatial and gendered category of the ‘Orient.’ She is also currently working as a Research Assistant on a project that analyzes the articulation of Muslim womanhood in the works of the African author, Leila Aboulela.
