Reem Abbas

Reem Abbas is a feminist activist, researcher, and writer. Her book (Un)doing Resistance: Authoritarianism and Attacks on the Arts in Sudan’s 30 Years of Islamist Rule was published in 2023. Her essay “Smuggling Books into Sudan: A Brief History from 2012 to 2016” was published in the Art and Solidarity Reader: Radical Actions, Politics and Friendships. She is a former leader in Girifna and a former member of the coordination committee of Sudanese Women in Civic and Political Groups (MANSAM). Her essay “Who Is Fighting Sudan: The United Arab Emirates’ War on Sudan in the Media” was published in 2024. Her upcoming essay on Sudan and Feminist Foreign Policy will appear in Feminist Foreign Policy: Energy and Resistance, and she will co- author a chapter on Sudan in the forthcoming Routledge Handbook of Women, Politics and the Middle East.
