Khalid Shamis

London born, Libyan/South African, Khalid teaches, directs and edits independent long-form documentaries, constructing and completing several films a year as an editor. The edit suite and the lecture room are spaces of guiding first time filmmakers, directing directors, imbibing worlds alien to his, containing and creating another’s vision, manifesting the dreams of the subjects in the films and being taken by the voice of the material itself.

Studied and trained the the film and TV industry in the UK, Middle East and Southern Africa since 1997, Khalid has been based in Cape Town since 2005 is an integral part in Africa’s first rough cut edit laboratory, holds the prestigious South African Guild of Editors acronym and is a PhD candidate in visual history at the CHR at UWC.
