Legislating ‘race’ in South Africa

The racialising categories used by Couzens and the Switzers continue to use the language of The Population Registration Act, Act No 30 of 1950. This legislating of Apartheid policy: “provided that all South Africans be racially classified in one of three categories: White, Black or Coloured. Through 1950 the National Party issued a wave of legislation that entrenched Afrikaner nationalist ideology and oppressed everyday life in South Africa. These acts of parliament included the Immorality Amendment Act, Suppression of Communism Act, and The Group Areas Act.
